Spinal Stenosis in Tracy

Spinal stenosis develops when the spinal canal narrows. The narrowing in the open spaces of the spine may be due to abnormalities due to aging or caused by mechanical problems. It causes pressure on the spine and the nerves that travel through the spine to the arms and legs. Actually, it is often a degenerative disease and occurs over a period of years. It may even exist without any discomfort or pain. There are a number of factors that can cause spinal stenosis, including degenerative changes, spinal cord tumor, abscess, vertebral fractures, dislocations, thickened ligaments and congenital anomaly. Most people who have spinal stenosis are 50+. When younger people develop spinal stenosis, it’s typically caused by a genetic disease affecting muscle and bone development in the body.

Symptoms and Diagnosis of Spinal Stenosis

Pain, numbness, spasms and muscles weakness are often the symptoms of spinal stenosis. Pain known as pseudo claudication triggered by prolonged standing or walking may occur. Tingling and hot or cold feelings in the legs is common. And some people with spinal stenosis experience muscle weakness and spasms.

Spinal stenosis is often diagnosed with the multi-approach of patient history, thorough physical examination and imaging tests. However, the electro diagnostic study is more accurate and dependable on a stenotic spine than imaging tests. But in the circumstances of a spinal tumor, imaging tests are more finely tuned. If the spinal stenosis is due to an infection or abscess, blood tests may be required.

Treating Spinal Stenosis in Tracy

There are different treatment approaches to spinal stenosis depending on its source. The conservative medical approach entails analgesics, muscle relaxants, bed rest and local heat. Chiropractic care is a treatment approach that includes spinal manipulation, exercise and self-care methods. In severe cases of spinal stenosis, doctors may recommend surgery to create more space for the spinal cord or nerves. While spinal stenosis is a chronic condition which cannot be cured, there can be maintained improvement over time. The goal with treatment is to reduce pain and mobility symptoms while improving the patient’s quality of life.

Adjusting Your Way to Wellness at Ringer Chiropractic

Chiropractic adjustments are a non-invasive and natural way to help stenosis that is caused or aggravated by a spinal misalignment. Spinal adjustment can correct disc displacement and vertebral misalignment so that the bones, back muscles, ligaments and facet joints experience less stress. And with other therapeutic techniques like massage therapy, soft tissues can heal and feel better.

At Ringer Chiropractic, we implement a multi-faceted approach in the treatment of spinal stenosis. Our certified chiropractors and physical therapists utilize spinal adjustments, therapeutic massage, electrical muscle stimulation, inter-segmental traction, exercise plans and nutritional counseling to get your spinal stenosis under control. We are committed to helping our patients with spinal stenosis get immediate and long-term relief from their symptoms.
