Rotator Cuff Injuries

If moving your shoulder is painful or impossible, or may have a rotator cuff injury. This injury to the shoulder joint is difficult to recover from on your own. But you're not alone when you have the natural healing techniques of Ringer Chiropractic on your side.

The rotator cuff is a set of four muscles that encompass the shoulder joint -- the supraspinatus, the infraspinatus,  the teres minor and the subscapularis. These muscles are attached to the humerus (upper arm bone) and scapula (shoulder blade) via tough connective tissues called tendons. When either the muscles or their tendons sustains tears in their fibers, you have a torn rotator cuff. Repeated injury to the tendons can cause the tendons to develop chronic inflammation, or tendonitis. It's also possible for muscles to get trapped or pinched due to a misalignment in the joint. Shoulder pain, stiffness, weakness and reduced range of motion are the typical results.

While anyone can sustain a rotator cuff injury in an traumatic event such as an automobile accident, certain people may be at elevated risk for this particular problem. For instance, if your job or favorite sports call for repeated overhead shoulder actions such as swimming, throwing, hammering or warehouse work, the muscles and tendons of your rotator cuffs may take an extra beating that predisposes them to strains. Seniors who suffer from degenerative conditions such as osteoarthritis are another high-risk group; in fact, it's estimated that up to 30 percent of individuals aged 70 and over experience a torn rotator cuff. This may be due to a combination of years of injury and re-injury and the relatively poor blood supply these tissues have access to.

Our Tracy Chiropractor Can Relieve Your Shoulder Pain

A rotator cuff injury or other shoulder problem can be more debilitating than many people realize. Dealing with the problem effectively means not only getting over your immediate discomfort but also making the necessary corrections to minimize future damage to the joint.

Our chiropractor, Dr. Ringer, can evaluate your condition carefully to see whether you actually have a damaged rotator cuff or another painful condition. (An impingement of the C5 nerve root in the neck, for example, can cause a form of cervical radiculopathy that produces shoulder pain and weakness.) If we do see damage to the rotator cuff, we can provide a number of natural, non-pharmaceutical treatments to relieve your discomfort and rehabilitate the shoulder. These include:

  • Chiropractic adjustments to correct any shoulder-joint misalignment related to rotator cuff damage
  • Massage therapy to relieve pain/inflammation and optimize blood flow for better healing
  • Physical therapy to help you gently and safely regain shoulder strength and range of motion
  • Lifestyle/ergonomic recommendations to help you avoid overuse injuries to the shoulder tissues
  • Nutrition counseling to help you supply your body with the materials it needs to repair itself

Call 209-835-2225 for an evaluation of that painful shoulder today. We can help!
